I edit a variety of papers for inclusion in academic journals. Some of these require a simple proofread but many need major editing. This is because, for publication in the various academic journals, a strict word count is applied. Often the paper is prepared from existing research or articles and can be complex. Reducing these articles to a few thousand words is a challenge and consumes valuable time for the author, who is also not best placed to edit out sections of their own writing.
One such chapter was for the Routledge International Handbook of Human Trafficking. With many different contributors, each needed to work to a strict word count, including referencing and tables. This project has taken several years to put together so it’s great to finally see it in print.
